CENTREVILLE, VA — Virginia State Police identified 70-year-old Charles N. Ullman of Haymarket as the driver killed in a multi-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on I-66 near Centreville, according to a police release.
Troopers responded around 2:37 p.m., on Friday to westbound I-66 just east of Route 29 for the report of a multi-vehicle crash.
An investigation revealed that the 2011 Hyundai Sonata being driven by Ullman was heading west in the left center lane, when the car moved into the right center lane. After hitting a 2018 Dodge Journey, Ullman's car continued to head into the right lane, where it struck a 2015 Freightliner box truck. The Sonata veered back across all lanes of traffic before striking a ditch on the left side of the roadway.
While both the driver of the Dodge and box-truck were uninjured, Ullman was taken to Reston Hospital for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries.
All three drivers were wearing seatbelts, according to VSP.
