Here are the top stories today in Salt Lake City: New permanent shelters cannot be created for the next six months in Salt Lake City following a petition from Mayor Erinn Mendenhall. Mayor Mendenhall started the petition to amend City Code 21A to ensure the location and type of homeless shelters and services in Salt Lake City are "carefully addressed." It does not prohibit the City from considering a potential temporary shelter location if a provider proposes a site in a zone currently allowing homeless shelters. (ABC 4) The WWest of Conventional Mural Tour, launched Monday, will feature 10 different local artists with murals placed around six cities in the county and four Salt Lake City neighborhoods once it is complete. "This is the largest county-wide mural initiative ever," said Derek Dyer, the executive director of Utah Arts Alliance. The Utah Arts Alliance reached out to a diverse range of local artists for murals that express the county's story. While every mural differs in some sort of way, they all share the same message and aim to connect the people of Salt Lake.
