AUSTIN, TX — An elderly woman was struck and killed by a car in south Austin last week, authorities said Monday.
The crash took place around 8:55 p.m. Friday near the 7000 block of E. Riverside Drive and Frontier Valley Drive.
Police said a Chevrolet Spark was traveling westbound on Riverside Drive and struck a pedestrian who was crossing E. Riverside Drive. Austin EMS attempted life-saving measures, but confirmed the person died at the scene. The pedestrian is an unidentified woman around 70-years-old.

The driver of the Chevrolet remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, authorities said.

The Oct. 1 incident marks Austin's 88th fatal traffic crash of 2021, resulting in 95 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2020, there were 64 fatal crashes resulting in 69 fatalities.
