Press release from the City of Johnston:
October 5, 2021
Searching for a reason to get outside before the leaves fall and temperatures drop for the winter? Adopting a stream might be just the activity you're looking for.
Through Metro Waste Authority's Adopt A Stream program, you and a group of friends, family members, or co-workers can select a section of Beaver Creek to keep clean. Adopters commit to cleaning their area once per year, but you could clean it more if you wanted to!
Healthy streams, healthy communitiesTrash like bottles, plastic bags, and tires frequently end up in our rivers and streams through stormwater runoff, strong winds, and littering. No matter how small a piece of trash may seem, it can have a big impact on the health of our community when it's not disposed of properly.
Adopting a waterway not only leads to a cleaner and healthier environment, but it's also a great way to build teamwork, give back to your community, fulfill volunteer hours, and explore the watershed you live in!
No experience? No problem!Metro Waste Authority's staff will ensure each group has the resources necessary to make their Adopt A Stream cleanup a success. From cleanup checklists to supply and disposal arrangements, they are ready to assist!
