Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Wednesday October 6th, 2021! First, today's weather: Cool with clouds and sun. High: 75 Low: 53. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Registration is now open for the Village Feast, a farm-to-fork celebration of Northern California's bounty and the contributions of women to food and drink. Hosted by the Sacramento chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier International, this is the group's major fundraising event to support women who want to pursue careers in food, wine, agriculture and related fields. For the second consecutive year, the Village Feast will be "virtual." Festivities will be live online from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9. Registration is free and no tickets are sold; all proceeds come from the auction or direct donations. Participants may order pre-cooked meals or farm-fresh boxes from participating restaurants and food suppliers, inspired by the Village Feast spirit. (SN&R) Aftershock starts Thursday! This is the single biggest annual event that Sacramento hosts, and this year is expected to be a blowout, since it was canceled last year due to COVID. Around 40,000 people are expected each day over the course of the four-day event. Discovery Park will transform into a city within a city, playing host to folks from around the world. The Hyatt Regency downtown is sold out this weekend because of the event. The outdoor venue will have lots of COVID protocols in place, so if you're going, be sure to check the website so you're not surprised at the door. (CBS Sacramento) Happy birthday to the Golden 1 Center! It turned 5 years old on Monday. And, according to G1C officials the venue has been the hub of more than $6.5 billion of investment in the greater downtown area. Fifty-nine development projects were completed, 28 are under construction and 81 more are being proposed. That's quite an achievement for being just 5 years old! (KCRA3) Two men are dead and two injured in a hit-and-run accident near Madison Avenue on Monday night. Police have confirmed that there were three cars involved. A GMC pickup veered off the road and hit two men who were attending to their disabled vehicles on the side of the road. The pickup then bounced back into traffic hitting an oncoming Honda. The two men attending to their vehicles died of their injuries. The driver of the GMC left behind a critically injured passenger in his vehicle and fled on foot. Police are still looking for the driver. The cause of the crash is under investigation. (ABC10) According to WalletHub, Sacramento ranks 6 among "food cities" in America, getting high scores for its affordability, diversity, accessibility, and quality. WalletHub released its 2021 report comparing more than 180 U.S. cities across 29 key indicators of "foodie-friendliness." I'm proud to say that Sacramento took the top spot for "Affordability & Accessibility of Highly Rated Restaurants." And I can personally attest to the fact that the Sacramento "farm to fork" food scene rocks! Thanks for recognizing that, WalletHub! (ABC10) Today's Sacramento Daily is brought to you by RVshare.
