Description

Press release from the City of Reno: 10/04/2021 10:28 AM The City of Reno is in the process of redrawing the boundaries of the city's five wards. Redistricting takes place every 10 years after the federal census, when district boundaries for federal, state, and local elected offices are redrawn to reflect new population data and shifting populations.  Residents of the city are invited to attend any of three upcoming scheduled public meetings, where they can learn more about the process and weigh in on how the lines should be drawn: October 7 at 5:30 p.m.: Presentation of preliminary map options (virtual) Community members must register for the virtual meeting. Once registered, you will receive login and call in details for the meeting. October 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.: Walk-in opportunity to view maps and provide feedback in person (Reno City Hall - 1 E. First St. - use second floor entrance). Spanish-speaking staff will be available to answer questions as well. October 21: Presentation of final map (virtual) Residents can also watch the September 23 meeting to learn about the redistricting process. Video recordings of each virtual meeting will be available online for the public to view at their convenience.  During and after each meeting, the public is invited to provide comments by emailing [email protected]. Once the maps are released, the community will also be able to provide feedback online at Reno.Gov/Redistricting. "I encourage everyone who can to attend and to engage in the public redistricting meetings. The more Renoites participate, the better we can all help ensure our new ward boundaries best reflect the unique, diverse communities that define our great city," Reno City Manager Doug Thornley said. To learn more about the redistricting process and ways to get involved, including a complete schedule of meetings, visit the city's online redistricting portal at Reno.Gov/Redistricting.
