JOLIET, IL — Bail has been set at $2,000 for a 32-year-old Joliet man who is accused of choking woman Monday morning at his house in the 6900 block of Cottie Drive, a subdivision in the Plainfield area near Theodore Street and County Line Road.
Joliet police say Anthony O. Hawkins was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery. He remained in detention Tuesday night, unable to post $200 cash, which is 10 percent of his bail.
Joliet officers went to Hawkins' house on Cottie Drive after learning of a domestic disturbance, authorities said.
"Officers determined that a female adult victim had been battered by Hawkins, her fiancé," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English stated. "Further investigation revealed that during an argument, Hawkins had covered the victim's face with his hands and then choked her with both hands, causing the victim to briefly lose consciousness."
