FRANKFORT, IL — Renovations and upgrades are scheduled to be completed by the 2022 season for the splash pad at Commissioners Park, 22108 S. 80th Ave. in Frankfort, according to a news release from Frankfort Park District. Planned upgrades include the addition of a re-circulation system for the splash pad's water, which comes from a well that is high in iron and has left the splash pad with a reddish tint over the years. The re-circulation system will also improve the temperature of the water, which the park district described as "cold." The splash pad is also slated to get replacements of the existing features and a new surface, according to the release. The splash pad was originally constructed in 2004, according to the park district. The area surrounding the splash pad will be fenced off while the renovations and upgrades are performed, according to the release. The public restrooms connected to the splash pad office will also be closed during construction, but a portable restroom will be available at the park. A portion of the cost is covered by a grant from Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, according to the release.
