MINEOLA, NY —The New York Civil Liberties Union is suing the Nassau County Police Department for failing to make public records of accused police misconduct, according to Newsday. The NYCLU on Oct. 1 filed a lawsuit that seeks to require the police department to publicly reveal the entirety of its records detailing complaints of police misconduct since Jan. 1, 2000, after the NYCLU filed a request last year, Newsday reports. The NYCLU, along with counsel from Milbank, filed the suit against the Nassau Police Department "for unlawfully denying the NYCLU's requests for the full slate of records related to police misconduct authorized to be disclosed following the repeal of 50-[A]," according to the NYCLU website. The NYCLU has pursued record requests from 12 police departments, including Nassau, Suffolk, Hempstead and Freeport, and has already sued Freeport, Newsday reported.
