MASSACHUSETTS — It's Tuesday, Oct. 5. Here's what you should know this afternoon: A Worcester billionaire isn't quiet rich enough to make the Forbes top 400 list.The leader and founder of the MetroWest Transit Authority is retiring. Today's Top Story: Billionaire's list Worcester resident Valentin Gapontsev was not quite enough of a billionaire to make the annual Forbes 400 list. Gapontsev was No. 359 on the list in 2020 with an estimated worth of about $2.3 billion. One year later, he's worth slightly less at $2.2 billion, according to Forbes. Monday's Other Top Stories Transit chiefs retiring: The heads of the Worcester and MetroWest regional transit authorities are both stepping down in June. MWRTA administrator Ed Carr announced his retirement on Monday, and the WRTA board chair said Tuesday that the agency will soon begin a search to replace Dennis Lipka. Chief terminated: The Milford Select Board moved to officially terminate former chief Michael Pighetti, who has been on leave since January after a traffic stop the Select Board called "unlawful." Red Sox-Yankees Live: Baseball fans can head to Polar Park Tuesday evening to watch the American League Wild Card game between the Red Sox and Yankees. The home of the WooSox will be free to enter with the game being broadcast on TVs across the park. Art event postponed: An annual showcase of artists in Natick is being postponed until April due to coronavirus. Instead, a smaller outdoor art show will be held in October.
