ATLANTA — Investigators are searching for a man they believe shot and killed a pregnant LaGrange woman in her car as she traveled Tuesday along a southwest Georgia highway.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Troup County Sheriff's deputies were called to a vehicle accident at Georgia Highway 18 near East Drummond Road. Deputies arrived to find 29-year-old Akeila Ware unresponsive in her passenger car with what appeared to be gunshot holes in the door, according to incident reports.
Ware was taken to a nearby hospital where medical officials learned that she was pregnant. Both Ware and her unborn child died shortly after she arrived at the hospital, authorities said.
Investigators determined that a second vehicle was involved in the accident and the shooting happened possibly near Highway 18 and Whitesville Road. Authorities are looking for a silver Nissan with possible front-end damage.
Deputies were engaged in a high-speed pursuit on I-185 with the suspect earlier in the day, but the man escaped. Authorities said the man is armed and considered dangerous, and has threatened to harm himself.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck and asks that anyone with information about this crime call the Criminal Investigation Division at 706-883-1616 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
