Appalachian Substance Abuse Coalition for Prevention, Treatment, & Recovery Annual 2021 Meeting at Sims Wellness Center, Bluefield College Please save the date for our next ASAC-PT Coalition Meeting on October 14, 2021 from 10:00 a.m.- noon. We will meet in the The Herb Sims Wellness center gym in Bluefield, Virginia. Lunch will be served. Please register in advance so we have a headcount for lunch. This is ASAC's annual meeting. Nominations and Elections of Officers will be held. Join us as our special guests will be members of Tazewell County's CADRE group who will share what they have been doing in our area. Entry: guests to the event will be through the side door on the left beside the Sims Center sign. Please see the signage on the Entry Door. Parking: please have guests park closer to the Sims signage and down toward the rescue squad toward Mitchel stadium. Our guest speaker will be Harry Howe, founder and Executive Director of Project Crossroads. He is an Ordained Elder of Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church; a commissioned Missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of UMC; a Physician Assistant licensed in Virginia; a Certified Master Electrician, Plumber and Mechanical HVAC in Virginia; and holds the Certification for Contractors License in Virginia. He also is a Paramedic in Virginia. In addition to Project Crossroads, he serves on Mel Leaman Free Clinic Board of Smyth County as Board Chair, serves as the Chair of Board of Commissioners for Marion Redevelopment & Housing Authority, serves as the Disaster Coordinator for Abingdon District of UMC. In his role with the medical outreach program of Project Crossroads he is a Physician Assistant (Primary Care Provider with the Mel Leaman Free Clinic in Marion, Virginia) He also serves as the Host Community Coordinator for the RAM of Smyth County (Remote Area Medical) providing medical, dental and vision services during a three day clinic event each May. He has served as a member of Holston Conference teams to Sudan in 2007, Co-Leader of 2008 and 2009 teams, and member of 2014 Conference team (all medical teams). He is an Adjunct Professor for Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine PA Program at LMU and an Adjunct Professor for Emory and Henry College – School of Health Science PA Program teaching students in the clinic and some lectures in the classroom.
