Mural Inspiration: This mural, created by Artist Tiffany Machler, celebrates the Venus Flytrap. The Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a carnivorous plant native to subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States in North Carolina and South Carolina. The Venus Flytrap catches its prey—chiefly insects and arachnids —with a trapping structure formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves, which is triggered by tiny hairs (called "trigger hairs" or "sensitive hairs") on their inner surfaces. Carolina Beach is home to a huge population of these amazing plants. This mural is fully sponsored by Kelly & Terry Wyckoff in memory of Melody Barberich. Carolina Beach Mural Project is a non-profit organization that celebrates Carolina Beach's rich history through Public Art. The mission of the Carolina Beach Mural Project is to celebrate our eclectic history, inspire our beach community, welcome and engage visitors and become a destination of ART for Everyone through murals depicting life in Carolina Beach with funding through sponsorships, events, donations and private partnerships. ART for wALL!
