WALTHAM, MA — Brandeis University has made several changes to its dining programs and services this semester to reflect their long-term sustainability initiatives, according to a news release from the school.
The changes are part of an effort to support their "Cool Food Pledge," which states that Brandeis Dining will decrease their carbon footprint by 25% by 2030.
Starting this year, Brandeis will be increasing the purchase of New England produce and foods with sustainable attributes by 2% each year.
In addition, the school has begun to reduce red meat consumption by creating blends that are 75% meat and 25% mushroom and onion and has eliminated single-use plastics and bags from the student center, convenience stores, and dining halls.
According to the Cool Food Pledge, Brandeis has also committed to reducing the amount of total waste, including trash, recycling, and compost, and eliminating contamination of recycling.
