'Library Of Things' Coming To Sudbury's Goodnow

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury's Goodnow Library is joining a growing number of systems in adding a "library of things." At the end of October, the Goodnow will debut a new program that will allow patrons to borrow common (and uncommon) devices and objects like pressure washers, video game systems — and, just in time for Halloween, a ghost meter. The Goodnow's new "library of things" was curated by reference services chief Joanne Lee. She said it's a way to offer a more sustainable way to consume and explore products. "We hope to provide access to items beyond just books," Lee said in a news release. "Patrons can try new things, have fun adventures, and gain new experiences." Some nearby library systems already offer "things" to borrow. In Marlborough, patrons can borrow toys and kids games and home energy meters. Worcester library-goers can check out laptops, paper shredders, telescopes and much more. The debut of the "library of things" will coincide with a Halloween-themed open house event on Oct. 30 that will also feature crafts, cider and donuts, a scavenger hunt and a scarecrow contest. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library building. Patrons are encourage to wear costumes.
