Description

SALEM, MA —The Salem Community Preservation Committee will hold a virtual public forum to solicit feedback on priorities for next year's Community Preservation Act funding. The CPA, which is funded through a tax surcharge and matching funds from the state, is designed to undertake open space, historic preservation, outdoor recreation and community housing projects in the city. The forum will be on Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. with instructions posted here by Tuesday. A draft Fiscal Year 2022 Community Preservation Plan will be prepared following the forum and made available for public comment. The committee will then solicit proposals, review applications and recommend projects to the City Council for funding. The deadline for proposals is expected to be March 2022. Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll said the CPA has dedicated more than $8.7 million in funding for housing, historic and recreation projects in Salem since its inception in 2012. The funding has supported 37 historic resource projects, 34 open space and recreational land projects and 152 units of new affordable housing. Written comments on the CPA can be sent to the Department of Planning and Community Development at 98 Washington Street, Salem MA, 01970 by Oct. 22. More on the CPA can be found here.
