SARASOTA, FL — A Canadian father and son and their pet cat were rescued from a 35-foot boat that was sinking 34 miles off the coast of Sarasota by an air crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater on Monday.
Both men and their orange tabby cat were safely returned to Air Station Clearwater in good health, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a news release.
U.S. Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders were alerted about the sinking vessel Monday morning by an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB).
The MH-60 Jayhawk air crew responded and found the boat "demasted and taking on water," the USCG said.
