BARTOW, FLA. – A Polk County technician who helps to keep the county's fleet of vehicles on the move has been honored as the top young members of his field nationally as recognized by a national magazine, county officials announced last week. Christopher Taylor was named the recipient of the 2021 Best Young Tech Award as handled out by Endeavor Business Media, which publishes Motor Age magazine and Professional Tool And Equipment News. Polk County Fleet Management Director Robert Biller nominated Taylor for the honor. Taylor was up against other young technicians throughout the country who are 35 years old or younger. Qualifications for the honor also recognized Taylor as someone who is moving the service repair industry forward, who excels in their current role and who is passionate about his work, the county said in a news release announcing the award. "This is wonderful news and the award is well-deserved for Chris," Biller said in the release. "Chris works hard, is thorough in his work and sets a great example to others. He is a valued member of our team and is well respected by his coworkers and supervisors." As part of the award, Taylor also receives a trip to the SEMA Show (an automotive trade show), a trip to the STX Supplier and Training Expo, $5,000 in Milwaukee tools and an Autel diagnostic scanner, the county said. The county's fleet management division repairs and maintains more than 2,400 vehicles and equipment owned by the county and its officers, the release said. While a large part of the division's responsibilities includes maintaining vehicles, employees also are responsible for making repairs that occur from traffic accidents, theft, vandalism and other accidents, county officials said.
