NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY — A scarecrow was found hung by a noose outside of a Long Island senior center — and authorities have labeled the incident as a hate crime, police said. According to Suffolk County Police, the scarecrow was found at the North Amityville Senior Center, located at 48 Cedar Road, and hung from a pergola with a noose at the rear of the property. Police believe the incident occurred sometime between Friday at 4:40 p.m. and 12:05 p.m. Monday. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to call hate crimes unit detectives at 631-852-6553 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
