HUNTINGTON, NY — A threat against a middle school in Huntington was posted to TikTok, and Suffolk police are investigating. The social media post was reported to the police on Sunday. James Polansky, superintendent of the Huntington School District, told the community that a "disturbing" video surfaced on the TikTok app where a person threatened violence at Finley Middle School on Wednesday. Police were called and were set to go to the middle school on Monday morning, according to Polansky. In a Monday letter, Polansky wrote that the person who posted the TikTok videos was identified, and "appropriate action has been taken." Police did not provide any further details. Comments from the person posting the video suggested it was a joke, but Polansky called it "no joking matter," and said the police are following up. "I implore you to speak with your children about the responsible use of social media and the potential consequences of posting items recklessly," Polansky wrote in his first letter. He doubled down on Monday. "Once again, I ask that you monitor your children's presence on social media and reinforce them with the importance of using electronic communication tools properly and the serious consequences that may result if they are used irresponsibly."
