Framingham May Add Precincts After Census Shows Population Rise

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham may add nine voting precincts following the release of U.S. Census figures showing the city added some 4,000 residents over the past decade. The decennial Census is used by a guide to draw political boundaries and populations shift and grow. Under state law, municipal precincts and wards must contain roughly equal numbers of people. Framingham City Clerk Lisa Ferguson has proposed creating nine new voting precincts, an increase from the 18 that exist now. That change would also shift the size and shape of City Council districts, according to a proposal Ferguson present to the Council in September. Council Districts 3, 6, 7 and 8 would all shrink, and the remaining districts would grow, according to the proposal. Districts 2 and 4 would both expand the most at 2.83 percent and 3.19 percent, respectively. You can find out which precinct and Council district you live in on the Framingham website. The 2020 Census figures were released in early August and showed that Framingham grew from 68,323 residents in 2010 to 72,362 as of April 1, 2020.
