FRAMINGHAM, MA — U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Framingham) announced a $82,862 federal grant for the Framingham Fire Department on Monday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance to firefighter grant will be used for training and to buy new tools an equipment. The money will largely be used to buy defibrillators to install in public places across the city, according to Clark's office. "Municipal budgets are stretched thin, this funding source is crucial in helping maintain our daily services, without having to cut in other areas," Dutcher said in a news release. FEMA has given out about 1,887 assistance to firefighter grants totaling $319.5 million over the program's history. "Framingham's brave firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our communities. Ensuring our fire departments have equipment that protects their health is critical to their mission and safety," Clark said in a news release.
