SANDWICH, MA — The Cape Cod community rallied around the family of a Sandwich teen who died in a car crash. As of Monday afternoon, a GoFundMe campaign for the family of Andrew Degan, 18, raised $9,320 of its $10,000 goal. The money all came within 16 hours, when Cara McNeil created the campaign. Degan died Friday morning in a rollover crash on Route 6 in Sandwich. Massachusetts State Police said the crash happened around 5:50 a.m., near exit 59. Degan's car went off the road into the median, struck a tree and then stuck the wire guardrail and rolled over, according to State Police. Degan was part of the class of 2021 at Cape Cod Tech, and graduated at the top of his class in the HVAC program, according to McNeil. He worked for Carl F Riedell & Son, Inc, out of Osterville and Nantucket, starting when he was 16. "He had a full life ahead with so much promise, and it was unfairly cut short," McNeil wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Losing a child is unimaginable and is every parent's worst nightmare. Please keep Andrew and the Degan family in your hearts and prayers. Hug your kids tight. If you are not able to donate, please share in memory of Andrew." The GoFundMe page for Degan's family can be found here.
