FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Here are five local stories you don't want to miss today in Fairfax County: 1. Fairfax School Bond Referendum Seeks Renovations For 14 Schools: Fairfax County residents will be voting on a $360 million school bond referendum in November. The bond would fund the planning and design or construction phase for 14 schools as well as site acquisition for a future western high school. The most recent school bond referendums approved by voters were in 2019, 2017, 2015 and 2013. 2. Powerball Ticket Bought In Vienna Wins $50,000: A Powerball ticket purchased in Vienna won a $50,000 prize in a Sept. 29 drawing. The ticket was bought at the Vienna Shell at 252 Maple Avenue in Vienna. No tickets have matched all six numbers to match the Powerball jackpot, which is up to $670 million. 3. Fatal Crash Reported In Franconia Area: Police: Fairfax County Police responded to a fatal crash in the Franconia area Monday afternoon. The single-vehicle crash happened at Franconia Road and Guilford Drive. The driver was the lone occupant and was taken to the hospital. The driver was pronounced dead but has not been publicly identified. 4. COVID-19 Vaccination Mandated For All Civilian DoD Employees: All civilian Defense Department employees are now required to be vaccinated for COVID-19, according to a new order signed by the Secretary of Defense. The deadline for DoD employees to be fully vaccinated is Nov. 22. Back on Aug. 9, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin issued a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for all uniformed service members in his department.
