STAMFORD, CT — A Bridgeport man faces several gun and drug charges after an alert Stamford police officer made a traffic stop last Friday evening, according to police. Kevin Conley Jr., 19, was pulled over in a 2007 Saab by Officer Timothy Speer around 5 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the area of Atlantic Street and Lipton Place, Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department said, noting that Speer had recognized Conley Jr. from previous interactions, and knew his license was suspended. "We're very familiar with [Conley Jr.] from prior criminal activity," Conklin added. Conley Jr. was arrested and charged with operating a car with a suspended license, operating a car without insurance, and operating an unregistered car, Conklin said. As the car was about to get towed away, an inventory was taken and officers found a 9 mm Remington handgun with an 18-round, high capacity magazine under the driver's seat, Conklin said, noting It was loaded with 16 rounds. He said officers also discovered a big bag containing 17 smaller bags of crack cocaine, and two other smaller bags containing a total of about 3.5 grams of crack cocaine. Conklin said officers found additional plastic bags for packaging, four 9 mm bullets and a glock magazine. In addition to the motor vehicle charges, Conley Jr. was charged with possession of a high capacity magazine, having a weapon in a car, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and operating a drug factory, Conklin said. Bond was set at $100,000. Speer was involved in another heads-up arrest last month when he noticed a man near the Stamford train station who had an arrest warrant in connection with a homicide that took place in Stamford in 2020. "Real kudos to Officer Speer," Conklin said. "This was a good job by this officer who is certainly keeping his eyes open out there."
