Police Presence In Towson Follows Chase: University Officials

TOWSON, MD — At least one person was arrested Monday night and Towson University was put on alert after a police chase that began in Baltimore County and ended in Baltimore City. Police allege the suspect assaulted an officer before carjacking someone near Osler Drive at Cross Campus Drive. A large police presence blanketed the area around Towson University following what police described as a "road rage incident" followed by the officer assault and carjacking. "Police activity may continue Monday evening as part of the investigation," according to a safety message issued by Towson University Chief of Police Joe Herring and Vice President of Student Affairs Vernon Hurte. "There is no continuing threat to campus," Herring and Hurte said in the statement. Before 6 p.m., officials said Baltimore County police stopped a vehicle on Osler Drive near Emerson Drive. The suspect got out, ran away off campus, was chased by a county officer and was ultimately arrested in Baltimore City, according to Herring and Hurte's campus safety message. No members of the Towson University community was injured, according to officials. Before 7 p.m., Towson University reported the suspect was in custody and the campus had been cleared. Police activity may continue Monday evening as part of the investigation, but there is no continuing threat to campus.
