ROUND ROCK, TX — Round Rock City Council unanimously approved a $23.4 million contract on Thursday to extend Kenney Fort Boulevard from Forest Creek Drive to Texas State Highway 45. The contract will include a six-lane divided arterial, a sidewalk and a shared-use path along the road, according to city officials. Construction is expected to begin this year and will take two years to complete. J.D. Abrams, the contractor for the project, is also the contractor for the University East project to widen University Boulevard to a six-lane road. Both projects are part of the city's Driving Progress program, which focuses on investing a minimum of $240 million over five years to improve road capacity and connectivity. Live in Round Rock? City officials said the Kenney Fort extension will eliminate the gap in the city's transportation network by providing an additional route for north and south traffic.
