HOUSTON, TX — A former student was charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and deadly conduct over the weekend in connection with a Friday shooting at YES Prep Southwest Secondary School. Dexter Harold Kelsey, 25, has been charged in the incident that injured YES Prep Principal Eric Espinoza, according to the Houston Police Department. He is accused of shooting Espinoza in the back with a rifle. Espinoza was taken to a hospital Friday for surgery and was later released. No children were harmed in the shooting. Live in Houston? Kelsey's bond was set for $5 million for the aggravated assault charge and $250,000 for the deadly conduct charge, according to court documents, and he is still in the Harris County Jail. Kelsey was not present at a court appearance Sunday because of a medical condition, and an interview has been ordered to determine possible mental health issues or intellectual disabilities he may have, court documents show.
