JERSEY CITY, NJ —Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson said he was moved to tears Monday after receiving an encouraging note from a fifth grader who had just listened to Robinson share a story about being bullied as a child. A representative for Robinson said the exchange took place at the Whitney M. Young Jr. Community School, PS #15 in Jersey City, where the councilman was one of several speakers taking part in a National Week of Respect kickoff event. Speaking to about 80 students in the school's auditorium, Robinson shared a story about how he was bullied as an elementary school student because of his height. According to reports, a female student then presented Robinson with a handwritten note, which pictures showed contained the messages: "You are beautiful just the way you are," "Sorry you had to go through that" and "You are amazing." "It's amazing how much kindness and respect these students already have at such a young age," Robinson said. "She really touched me. It made me cry."
