Shooting In Shorewood Outside New La Quinta Hotel: Report

SHOREWOOD, IL — There were reports of a shooting around 11 p.m. Monday in Shorewood at one of the new hotels along the frontage road near Jefferson Street and Interstate 55. Chicagoland FireGround Scanner broke the news just before 11 p.m., announcing to its thousands of Facebook followers that two people were shot in the parking lot of the EconoLodge. Troy Fire, Shorewood police, Joliet police and Will County Sheriff's Department were called to the scene. Joliet's Robert Hernandez went to the scene to produce one of his popular Facebook Live videos. Hernandez announced the police investigation was taking place at the property next door to the EconoLodge, which is the new La Quinta Hotel that opened in April. Hernandez's video showed crime scene tape being put up in the parking lot for the La Quinta Hotel. Hernandez said he spoke with a witness at the La Quinta Hotel who told him there was a body on the property. At least one of the police officers who responded to Monday night's shooting arrived in a Bolingbrook Police Department vehicle. Typically, Bolingbrook police only respond to shooting calls in the Joliet area when the Will County-Grundy County Major Crimes Task Force is summoned for duty. The crime investigation was likely to last several hours into the night. Patch will update this story on Tuesday as more details about the violent crime are known.
