PASADENA, CA — The Pasadena Tournament of Roses has found its seven members of the Royal Court for 2022.
More than three dozen applicants were interviewed for the Royal Court, the Tournament of Roses said Monday. The applicants had to be full-time students who identify as female, live in the Pasadena Community College District and be at least 17 years of age.
The seven students were chosen based on their "public speaking ability, academic achievement, youth leadership and community and school involvement," the Tournament of Roses said in a statement. A Royal Court was not chosen last year because of the pandemic.
The members of the 2022 Royal Court are:
Jeannine Briggs, a senior at John Marshall Fundamental High School; Nadia Chung, a senior at La Canada High School; Ava Feldman, a senior at South Pasadena High School; Abigail Griffith, a senior at Pasadena High School; Swetha Somasundaram; a senior at Arcadia High School; McKenzie Street, a senior at Flintridge Sacred Heart; Jaeda Walden, a senior at La Canada High School. Each student will receive a $7,500 scholarship for being named to the Royal Court and will represent the Tournament of Roses ahead of the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game, organizers said.
A special ceremony on Oct. 26 will name one of the seven girls as the Rose Queen.
