Hello, neighbors! Paula Constance here with the latest edition of the Bedford Daily. First, today's weather: Rain showers early, overcast later in the day. High 58. Chance of rain 60 percent. Tuesday night, a few clouds. Low 50. Here are the top stories in Bedford today: Who doesn't smile when they hear the name, The Friendly Toast? The popular all-day Bedford restaurant, dreamed up 20 years ago in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is opening its sixth location in New England and the third in Massachusetts, in front of the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers. There are also plans to open a new location in North Andover in the fall. Everything in the kitchen is "made from scratch," and "many of the ingredients are locally sourced," with maple syrup from New England maple trees, ham from New Hampshire farms, and cheese from Vermont. Did I mention they also have a full bar? You can have a Mimosa or tomato-infused Bloody Mary with your Friendly Toast breakfast or lunch. (nshoremag.com)In a recent interview about the impact 0f the ongoing surge of COVID-19 cases on health care providers, ICU doctors and nurses at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester said they are "exhausted" and "discouraged" by the surge in new cases and deaths. ICU nurse Abby Bucchanio said, "during these times, it has been very difficult." They have been treating patients of all different ages, and many of the patients coming into the ICU are unvaccinated. Her co-worker, ICU nurse Dawn McGuire, added that "nurses are burned out, patients are sick, families are devastated, and it all could have been prevented." Despite the surge of new cases, patient care is always a priority. "We treat all patients like family," Bucchanio said. "You go in your patient's room and put a smile on... and give them everything that we have." (Union Leader)It's that time of year.
