GLENVIEW, IL — Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton (D-14th) recently shared he has been diagnosed with throat cancer. After consultation with his doctors, he is currently undergoing treatment with a prognosis for a full recovery, according to a news release. Britton expects to return to his duties at full capacity before the new year.
"Thank you to my family, friends, and colleagues for your support while I work to get healthy," Britton said. "While this will indeed be a tremendous challenge, I also know millions live with cancer every day. I am humbled with gratitude for my positive diagnosis, access to the best health care in the world, and for the opportunity to use this experience to better understand and serve the residents of the great 14th District. I can't wait to see you again in person very soon."
Britton, who previously served on the Glenview Village Board for three terms, has been a commissioner since 2018.
The 14th District of Cook County includes Arlington Heights, Barrington, Glenview, Inverness, Northbrook, Northfield, Palatine, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, Wheeling, as well as parts of Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Deer Park and Deerfield.
While Britton will be unable to attend in person meetings or events during his treatment, according to the news release, he will continue to participate remotely in County Board meetings, budget briefings, and all other County business. He will also continue to host virtual events, including his annual Domestic Violence Awareness Panel on Oct. 5. His staff will remain "vigilant, available, and accessible" for all constituent inquiries and intergovernmental collaboration.
Britton is requesting that any constituent, colleague, or well-wisher consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society.
