WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Rescue animals on their way to eventual adoption and forever homes landed in the Hudson Valley in style on Saturday. Air travel can be a hassle, but 21 of man's best friends arrived at Westchester County Airport no worse for their travels, despite a slight flight delay and a last minute gate change. An "Amelia Air" flight brought the adorable four-legged passengers to their new home in the Hudson Valley from Windy Ridge Rescue in South Carolina. According to the SPCA Westchester, the recent arrivals will be available for adoption soon. Issac received a warm welcome when he touched down at Westchester County Airport over the weekend. Now, it's time for him to be welcomed into a good home. (Westchester SPCA) A major missing link for many rural, often overcrowded shelters across the country is the ability to transport dogs and cats to more populated areas where larger numbers of potential adopters live, Westchester SPCA officials say. (SPCA of Westchester) Amelia Air provides that missing link by offering compassionate air transport to deliver animals directly to rescue and adoption centers who can find them loving and responsible homes. The manifest of Amelia Air's latest flight to the region included Issac, Izzy, Midnight, Moon Willa, Wynn, Wisp, Wade and Walter. The fully booked flight of 21 canine passengers were eager to stretch their paws and sniff their new surroundings. Amelia Air Animal Rescue was co-founded by Petra Janney, the niece of actress Allison Janney. The non-profit animal rescue organization is the namesake of a Great Dane who first met founder Dean Heistad and his family on the tarmac of an airport after being rescued from a shelter and is herself named after legendary aviator Amelia Earhart. The Great Dane became the inspiration for an animal airlift charity that has saved more than 416 cute, furry passengers. Willa, Wynn, Wisp, Winslet, Wade and Walter (SPCA of Westchester) Applications to provide a loving forever home for Westchester's newest residents can be found on the SPCA Westchester website.
