I surfed there before the oil rigs were built 41 years ago.
The natural seepage from the area caused the beach to be covered with sticky balls made of crude oil for miles.
I used to remove it from my feet, legs, and board with turpentine.
After the rigs were commissioned all of that stopped.
I'll bet that more environmental damage would be done had they not been there.
What do mean another? The last one was 1990, with a tanker spill.
(In 2007 a tanker ran into the Golden Gate Bridge on an incoming tide and dumped 60K gallons.)
