Jazz Coterie live music concert series presents WAMI winning vocalist Erin Krebs in tribute to Ella Fitzgerald's famous live recording. A very special engagement with Wisconsin’s own, Erin Krebs! Those of you who know Erin, know she can scat…and do a remarkable Ella Fitzgerald. In this special Jazz Coterie presentation, Erin pays homage to one of Ella’s most legendary recordings — Ella in Berlin: Mack the Knife. It was recorded live in concert on February 13, 1960 at the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin, Germany. This historic recording has been a life-long inspiration to Erin… and nearly every improvisational jazz singer and musician since its release. Ella in Berlin: Mack the Knife (Original Album Cover). One of Fitzgerald's most acclaimed live performances. Ella famously improvised lyrics for "Mack the Knife" when she forgot the words. In recognition, she received the Best Female Vocal Performance (Single & Album) at the 3rd Annual Grammy Awards in April of 1961. Ella in Berlin: Mack the Knife was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 to honor its historical significance. “Erin Krebs might be the best-kept secret of her native Wisconsin.” — Jazz Magazine Well, the secret’s out. Recently, Erin was awarded the WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Female Vocalist of the Year for 2019 and in 2018 the Erin Krebs & Jeff Johnston Duo was recognized as the 2018 Jazz Artist of the Year. Erin was also a nominee for Female Vocalist of the Year (2016, 2017, 2018) and Jazz Artist of the Year in 2017. “The enticing sound of Erin Krebs and her warm, inviting vocal style fills the room with song. And instantly your toe is tapping and your heart beating.” — Appleton Magazine Erin grew up in Southern Wisconsin, where she showed a love of music at an early age- singing on table tops at age 3. A few years later, she started playing flute and other woodwinds. Erin's love for music and teaching led her to UW-Oshkosh, and she received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 2003. Erin taught music in schools for a decade, and is currently focusing on her career as a vocalist and teaching private lessons on woodwinds, piano, and voice. Curating the jazz experience in Central Wisconsin. An intimate pop-up concert series showcasing the finest emerging and established artists from across the Midwest and around the globe. More than a musical exhibition, it’s a happening.
