The ideal candidate would have prior experience working in a woodshop and building furniture, but experience is not required. Job Description The Woodshop Assistant is needed to help with custom furniture production. This is a great opportunity to learn about tools, woodworking, and develop a new skill. While experience is not required, attention to detail, reading and making measurements, and accurate math are critical to ensuring our high quality products. This position can be physically and mentally challenging, requiring upper body strength and problem solving skills. We look for a good work ethic, a good attitude, and the ability to problem solve with the end goal and customer satisfaction in mind. Some portion of the work is done in shop areas without air conditioning, and you should expect to be on your feet most of the day. Job duties include: - Use of common & specialty woodworking tools & saws: jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, drum sander, orbital sander, chisels, hand planes, surfacing machine, orbital sanders, etc - Measuring, marking, and cutting using various saws - Using basic math and intermediate geometry as needed - Prepping, mixing, and pouring for epoxy work - Finishing custom furniture pieces using natural finishing products - General cleaning of shop: sweeping, cleaning tools, etc. - Other tasks as assigned Qualifications: - Prior lumber/woodworking operations or manufacturing experience preferred. - Ability to recognize problems or concerns and to effectively communicate them in a timely manner - Self-motivated, ability to follow instructions, think ahead, and work well with others. - Focus on quality, productivity, and safety while having a high attention to detail - Excellent attendance, work ethic, integrity, and use of good judgment. - Ability to professionally interact with customers. - Ability to work alone and as a team. - Physical Requirements: Walking, Standing, Sitting, Climbing, Bending, and Lifting in excess of 50 lbs. - High School diploma/equivalent preferred - Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Hours / Pay / Benefits: - Hours are generally 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday - Full Time: $13-17/hr starting pay, depending on experience - Helmwood does not currently provide healthcare benefits, however we do provide $175/month reimbursement towards your own healthcare marketplace enrollment. - Accrued paid time-off There’s always a great opportunity to learn new skills in the business if you are interested Helmwood is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
