Puppy needed for cancer patient

I have a lifetime friend who just finished chemo and radiation for lung cancer. Her scans are showing no cancer thanks be to god. She is wanting a small dog and has waited to finish treatment. Unfortunately it has been very expensive and finances are a bit tight. Her home did not get any damage and she has a large fenced yard. It doesn’t have to be a puppy but not a older one.
