DARIEN, IL — Darien saw a slight increase in new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The recent numbers are down from early August. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 1,988 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 20 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 17 new cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 24. The last two local coronavirus deaths were in September. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,017. Nationally, 43.5 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 1.8 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 698,672 people have died from the virus in the United States.
