Description
I’ve been playing bass / singing backing vocals for over 30 years and I’m putting together a new band. The Concept – I like what they have been calling “Yacht Rock." Of course, I like Van Halen and many others, but my favorite music is the West Coast Soft Rock from the mid 70s to mid 80s. My favorite band has always been Steely Dan, so that's where this all started. There are a few bands out there doing this “yacht rock thing” but there’s room for another one. I don’t write music, but if you write music in the style of any of these artists, it would be cool to do some originals as well. I believe there is a good market for this type of band. Here's a great example of what I'm looking to do - look up Hindley Street Country Club on Youtube - or better yet: https://www.youtube.com/c/theHindleyStreetCountryClub/videos You may already be aware of this band - this is what I'm looking to put together. If you like a lot of these bands / artists, then let’s get this going: Ambrosia, AWB, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Stephen Bishop, Jackson Brown, Bobby Caldwell, Carpenters, Bill Champlin, Bruno Mars (I mention Bruno because their style is retro funk / pop), Chicago, Christopher Cross, England Dan and John Ford Coley, Paul Davis, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Earth Wind and Fire, Donald Fagen, Firefall, Fleetwood Mac, David Foster (I like pretty much everything DF does), Dirty Loops-type reharms (because they're funky and fun), Kevin Gilbert / Toy Matinee, Andrew Gold, Jay Graydon, Hall and Oates, Don Henley, Al Jarreau, Elton John, Journey, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Little River Band, Kenny Loggins, Steve Lukather, Michael McDonald, Mr Mister, Orleans, Pablo Cruise, David Pack, Richard Page, Pages, Player, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Porcaro, Mike Porcaro, Lee Ritenour, Linda Ronstadt, Leo Sayer, Boz Scaggs, Seals and Crofts, Sneaker, Starland Vocal Band, Steely Dan (MY favorite :-), Sting, Supertramp, James Taylor, Toto (my other favorite), Tower of Power, Toy Matinee, Gino Vannelli (another favorite), Roger Voudouris, Stevie Wonder, 10CC. The Goal: Private party, corporate party, wedding gigs where we can make AT LEAST $300 per person. NOT club gigs that pay $300 for the whole band (AKA: crap) – a few here and there are OK as paid rehearsals or if an opportunity comes up. The lineup: guitar / bass (I’m on bass of course) / keyboards / drums / horns as needed. I sing backup vocals only. If everyone can sing parts, that’s great. If you’re a guitar player / keyboard player / drummer who can also sing lead = great. Then I’d need another lead vocalist – male or female depending on who the other lead singer is (and if they’re male or female). If we have two dedicated singers out front – one male / one female – that’s great too. So, the core group will be 5 to 6 members / add horns for larger gigs / larger budgets.
