Join us for an exclusive SELF-GUIDED farm tour experience. Thank you for your interest in the Button Farm Living History Center. Button Farm is set on 40-pristine acres inside Seneca Creek State Park, and is Maryland's only hands-on history center depicting 19th century slave plantation life and the inspirational story of the Underground Railroad. Our site features a Civil War-era Barn, Historic Outbuildings, Livestock Pens, Museum Garden, Slave Cemetery and is home to the Underground Railroad Immersion Experience. We are honored to serve the public as an essential community resource. Mask & Social Distancing Requirements Update (6.13.21) - In accordance with County, State and State Park guidelines Button Farm is dropping its mask/face covering requirement. If you are fully vaccinated, feel free to wear a mask/face covering or not, depending on your comfort level. If you have not been vaccinated you must continue to mask/face covering when visiting the farm, and especially in those instances where you come in contact with our staff or other visitors. All guests are asked to keep socially distanced from others who are not part of your own party. Cost: $10 per car The event will include the following activities: Guided Tours in June - Parking pass holders are invited to join us for Button Farm Almanac, a new guided tour of our living history center, led by historian and Menare founder, Tony Cohen. Guests will be guided on this behind-the-scenes tour of the farm, its history and environs. Discover how we create immersive experiences on forty acres of Maryland farmland and how we interpret the story of slavery and the Underground Railroad. Normally a $10 per person value, this tour is included for free with your paid parking pass in June. Tour runs from 1-2pm!Self-guided tours of our living history center, including Museum Garden, Animal Pens and Pavilion exhibits.Miles of hiking and mountain bike trails just off of our front drive.Picnic tables, benches and shaded areas to sit down or enjoy a picnic at (bring your own food and non-alcoholic drink).Beautiful landscapes and vista for photography, painting and bird-watching, so bring your gear.By signing up for the event you are consenting to the following: Participants will arrive and depart during the designated time period listed on the invitation and ONLY with the number of guests designated on your reservation.You will be greeted and receive instructions by our staff upon arrival at the farm.Your Eventbrite ticket will serve as both your reservation and parking pass for the event. You must present your ticket (electronic or hard copy) upon arrival. Park in designated parking spaces only.Helpful hints/Other Information to ensure an enjoyable visit Bring water (coolers are OK) -- There is no food or drink service on the site.Feel free to bring picnic and other outdoor supplies (i.e., sunblock, bug repellent, etc.).This is a "Leave No Trace" site (you are required to carry out what you bring in; there are no trash receptacles).There is a portable toilet on site. The historic Button Farm, home to the Menare Foundation, is Maryland’s only living history center depicting 19thcentury plantation life. Situated on 40-acres, inside of Seneca Creek State Park in Germantown, Maryland, Button Farm provides a safe and affirming space for people to gather, commune and explore. Through our unique interactive experiences, we seek to reveal our nation’s social justice legacy, using the story of slavery and the Underground Railroad as a spark for human potential.
