Here are the top stories in Burlington today: Despite pleas from students and alumni not to change, the unified schools of the Vermont State Colleges are getting rebranded. The board of trustees for the Vermont State Colleges System voted Wednesday to unify the Castleton University, Northern Vermont University, and Vermont Technical College campuses under a single new name: Vermont State University.Board members and Chancellor Sophie Zdatny say the name change was necessary and the current system is unsustainable, while detractors expressed concerns about the schools losing their individualism. (WCAX)Marissa Coleman has been hired as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion vice president at the UVM Medical Center. The psychologist, who is an expert in trauma and social justice, will be tasked with assembling a team and drafting a five-year strategic plan to improve DEI at the medical center. In the past 18 months, the state of Vermont, the city of Burlington, and several universities and organizations have established DEI committees or hired permanent staff.
