Description
The UPTOWN STRING BAND is a (501(c)3 non-profit club located in the Parkland section of Langhorne, lower Bucks County just minutes from northeast Philadelphia, eastern MontCo, I-95, Route-1, and the NE Philly (Bensalem) PA Turnpike exit. The band has both men and women members with ages ranging from 14 to 70+ and half are under 30. Our instruments include saxophone, banjo, accordion, violin, string bass, and drums. Uptown is a regular top finishing band placing between 5th and 10th over the past several years in the Philly Mummers Parade carrying on this 115+ year tradition. We are proud to be the only Mummers band representing far northeast Philly and the Bucks and MontCo suburbs. Several of our members live just across the nearby bridges in NJ. The band is always looking for new musicians, (also those who can contribute to choreography, prop building and design, costume design, clubhouse maintenance etc.) Some guitar players have easily switched to playing banjo "guitar style". We also have accordion players and saxophone players who were originally piano or brass musicians. The band has a scholarship program for our high school graduates. The band rehearses every Tuesday evening at 8:15 at Uptown Hall at the Parkland Fire Co. in Langhorne PA on Avenue D just north of Highland Ave. Parkland is centrally located at the intersection of Bensalem, Levittown and Langhorne and is within a mile of both the Neshaminy Mall and Neshaminy High School. Our music director is a 2019 graduate music major from Millersville University and our elected President has been a blues sax player in several Philly area bands. The band has annual performances in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, NJ, Delaware and has even traveled to Europe as a folk band representing the USA. Many of our musicians have other musical activities including wedding bands, club bands, jazz ensembles, dixieland bands, church organists, drama groups... so the band can provide some contacts for sharing your music and performing arts interests. For more information please go to www.uptownstringband.com or call . After 49 years in Hulmeville, in 2015 the band moved 2 miles away to Uptown Hall at the Parkland Fire Co. The band has a long-term full time lease on the hall and did a total renovation. Uptown Hall is a rental hall for 50 up to 200 guests. alto tenor bari, bass fiddle, percussion, dixieland, patriotic, sing-along, community
