Auction House Paid Internship

Jobs

New York City NY

Description

In these unprecedented, difficult times, wonderful work-related opportunities rarely arise. This in-person internship is one of those special opportunities. Not only will you have a chance to enter the high-powered world of major auctions, but you will have a “hands-on” experience working with the family of Nelson Mandela while helping prepare for one of the most compelling auctions ever conducted! For nearly half a century, New York City-based Guernsey’s has been producing some of the world’s most interesting auctions. A small sampling of these events includes the world’s largest auction (the contents of the ocean liner SS United States), the landmark Cold War auction of artwork from the Soviet Union, and the definitive auctions devoted to such iconic individuals as John F. Kennedy, Princess Diana, the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Duke Ellington, and Mickey Mantle. Recent events have included the sale of the complete archive of Rosa Parks and a Holocaust-related rare poster collection. The auction house has an immediate, in-person, internship available for a person interested in the world of auctions or in any of several related fields (art gallery, museum, antique dealer, etc.). As a small auction house, Guernsey’s will expose the intern to every phase of preparing for and conducting major auctions. Upcoming events that you will become part of include an auction devoted to one of the most beloved figures in modern times and an auction of an important art collection. Ideally, the intern should be available from 9 - 5:00 Monday through Thursday and 9 - 2 Fridays to work in our office which is on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The internship begins immediately and continues for several months. Anyone interested should visit www.guernseys.com to learn more about us. The intern will have the chance to learn: client services skills, cataloguing, photography, research, marketing, and contributing to a small team environment. Internships in auction houses are extremely rare! Please send your resume through the Craigslist mail relay to Susan with a short note telling us about yourself. Thank you.
