(acronym: Families United in Response to Down Syndrome and other Alterations, also Spanish word: Strength). FUERZA, is a volunteer operated, non-profit organization (#95-4324886) whose members are parents or relatives of persons with Down Syndrome or other developmental disability. Our goal is to provide information, education and support to Spanish-speaking families that, due to their cultural, socio-economic and language barriers, tend to be underserved. Our mission is to serve as a source of support, information and guidance to the families who have a developmentally disabled member, and to unify the families with special events and parent-to-parent support activities. Our philosophy is based on the belief that every human being, regardless of his/her physical or mental condition, has a right to develop to the maximum of his/her potential, and to contribute to society the wealth of his/her individual values. We believe that beyond the physical or biological characteristics, there is a human being whose dignity must be totally acknowledged and respected.
