THE HISTORY AND SCIENCE OF SILVER IN MANAGING INFECTIONS IN THE VASCULAR ACCESS SPECIALTY.
Silver has been used as an antimicrobial for centuries. This presentation will provide a brief background on the history of silver and review the mechanisms of action of silver in preventing infections. A focus will be made on silver vascular access advanced dressings. There will also be a discussion on the different mechanisms of the delivery of silver in advanced wound dressings as well as a review of CHG and the needs for alternatives.
