SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota's GismoPower LLC is one of thousands of solar-savvy installers and grassroots organizations throughout the country that will highlight thousands of solar-powered homes, schools and businesses — virtually and in person — across North America Saturday and Sunday for the National Solar Tour. The world's largest grassroots solar event, organized by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society, will showcase the technologies solar enthusiasts are using to reduce monthly energy bills and harmful carbon emissions and to enjoy rich tax credits and incentives, according to a news release from GismoPower. The Ginsberg-Klemmt family behind GismoPower will showcase the prototype of their solar-powered mobile carport, which integrates a portable carport, a powerful photovoltaic solar PV system and an EV-Charger into one plug-and-play style electricity generating appliance. Antonia Ginsberg-Klemmt was chosen as an OZY Genius Award recipient for her invention of the solar-powered mobile carport. She told Patch in May that she planned to use the $10,000 prize money to improve the stand-alone system, build a carport on the New College campus and grow the family business. With the recognition from the award, she also plans to use the momentum to educate people about the accessibility of solar energy and debunk common misconceptions about it, namely that it isn't affordable. "I'm just so stoked that it's gaining national recognition. Hopefully, this will get people thinking about and talking about renewable energy," she said.
