PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Most Port Washington residents have always known that local school superintendents are among the highest-paid in New York. And new data released by the state's Department of Education shows that it continues to be true. The department recently released salary information for superintendents across the state for the 2021-22 school year. Seven of the 10 highest-paid superintendents in the state are from Long Island school districts. And unsurprisingly, the Port Washington Union Free School District's superintendent made the list. Long Island school superintendents have an average salary of more than $251,ooo, according to state data. Their total compensation — including benefits and other perks — averages nearly $320,000. The salary numbers reported to the state are for the 2021-22 school year — and based on data the districts budgeted in May. The data is self-reported by school districts. The highest-paid superintendent on Long Island is Cheryl Pedisich of the Three Village Central School District, who has an annual salary of $334,750. With benefits, her total compensation is $421,499.
