Description

I'm mainly a guitarist, but can get around on keys, have a decent voice for certain places and can play bass. I have played in rock bands or some kind of attempt at raucous music for a long time. Anytime I've hinted at trying to make mellow chill out music I am usually dealing with pushback from whomever I'm working with. This morning ( Friday) I thought maybe if I explicitly stated that I want to play mellow music that there would be others out there who would 'get it'. Pink Floyd, The Doors, Astrud Gilberto, Leonard Cohen, Bebel Gilberto, Air, Sade, Joni, Carole, Nick Drake, Ella Fitzgerald, Bjork... The list goes on. Maybe you are familiar with marvin gaye's I Want You LP. Maybe you are into the radio friendly stuff from the 70s that has been repackaged as 'yacht rock', Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman. Mancini, Morricone. Just the same, the idea here is that you have some functional musicality and some time to develop something sustainable. By this, I mean be able to present ourselves professionally. I have no deep interest in all the rigors of professionalism, but I find it is much easier to deal with when you have a crew of players who aren't resistant to it. it also work the other way in that the people who are 'too professional' where it sucks the fun out of it because everything we do has a to make a certain amount of money. In the end i would be happy with a presentable body of compositions that i can slip on and relax to.
