HAUPPAUGE, NY — A man was arrested after Suffolk police said he drove while intoxicated and was involved in a crash that left himself and another man seriously injured, Friday morning.
A 72-year-old Coram man was driving a 2002 Mercedes Benz and Nolan Grant, 57, of Medford, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the westbound Long Island Expressway near Exit 57 in Hauppauge, when the vehicles crashed at 2:04 a.m., police said. The Mercedes overturned on the roadway, and the Jeep, which also overturned, traveled over a guardrail and up an embankment before coming to a stop on the shoulder, police said.
The Coram man suffered serious injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital, police said. Grant also suffered serious injuries and was brought to another hospital, police said.
Grant was charged with DWI. He is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.
